In many areas of the country, the agriculture industry provides many jobs as well as food for the local population.  Students at any grade level can be introduced to agriculture and its importance in your area. This independent study class will introduce teachers to several agricultural resources that can be utilized in the classroom in an effort to educate their students about where their food comes from, how it is produced and processed, and the benefits of eating fresh fruits and vegetables.

EDUO 9805: Saving the Past for our Future: Historic Sites

The National Register of Historic Places lists sites throughout the country that have been deemed important enough to preserve. In this course teachers will visit and study local historical sites in order to bring history alive and make learning more meaningful for students at any grade level. After experiencing the unique educational programs that these historic sites provide, the teacher will determine how to bring this newly added knowledge into the classroom.

EDUO 9807: Amazing Space & Science: Astronomy & More!

This class will provide teachers with the opportunity to learn about educational resources available to teachers and their students at a nearby planetarium. After exploring the basic principles of physics and astronomy by participating in hands-on interactive exhibits and star-gazing through telescopes, the teacher will be able to see how the experiences can be transformed into classroom learning activities.

EDUO 9809: Into the Studio: Meet the Artist

While participating and touring in community art venues, teachers will interview artists in order to obtain a working knowledge of the journey of art from its conception to the walls of the gallery. The teacher will decide how this information can be used in the classroom to facilitate for students the creation of a deep appreciation and understanding of the human fascination with art expression. EDUO 9814: Drama in the Classroom: Acting Out to Learn

The purpose of this class is to use theater arts as one avenue to enhance the teaching act and increase students' interest in learning. Teachers will further their knowledge of the performing arts by experiencing various kinds of (dramatic, comedic, or musical) play performances. They will conduct both pre and post performance research as well as either attend a rehearsal or interview a director or other production member. These theater arts experiences will then be incorporated into classroom curriculum.

EDUO 9820: Ethnic Sacred Places: Celebrating the Diversity of our Multicultural Community

If you live in a multicultural community, your classroom may include children of immigrant families who hail from all over the world. Along with their belongings, they brought their own religious beliefs and consequently built places of worship for their community members to attend.

For the purpose of attaining firsthand knowledge of your multicultural students' ethnic cultures this class will offer the opportunity for you to attend ethnic festivals and/or tour local historic or contemporary churches, mosques, temples or other ethnic places of worship.
