This course will use a TED Talk book, online TED Talks and web resources to help teachers motivate students to learn skills that will help them succeed and be happy in the work place of the future.

Participants will:

  • explore authentic and incentive motivation theories.
  • read the TED Book The Way We Work and compare its content with the classroom reality and the reality of life outside the classroom.
  • view TED Talks and relate the content of each talk  to the classroom and the personal and professional life of the teacher.
  • write about how students can be prepared to succeed and be happy in the work place of the future.

EDUO 9771 Building the Future With Creativity and Insight

This course will use a TED Talk book, online TED Talks and web resources to help you as teacher allow creativity to flow from your students and become part of the classroom experience

Participants will:

  • be led to understand through web resources how creativity is smothered by the present school system.  
  • read and review the TED Book The Future of Architecture in 100 Buildings  by Marc Kushner.
  • compare and contrast the feelings relating to the ideas from the Ted book and the two web resources.
  • view six TED Talks and relate the content of each talk to the problem of teaching creativity.
  • write about how students’ creativity can flourish in the school system of today so that they can be a part of development of the future.

  • review the qualities that make up an impressive person.

  • write about how a teacher can make a positive first and lasting impression up on her/his students.

  • Compare and contrast the positive and negative effects of technology

  • compose a philosophically based plan for changing the classroom now and in the future.

  • write about how students can be prepared for the choices that need to be made in a changing world.

  • compare and contrast self-determining people.
  • view six TED Talks and relate the content of each to various aspects of self-determination.
  • write about how students can be prepared to be self-starting learners.

This course will use a TED Talk book, online TED Talks and web resources to help the teacher prepare students to be self-determined learners

  • Through web resources experience methods of determining self-awareness
  • Read and review the TED Book The Boiling River: Adventure and Discovery by Andres Ruzo
  • Transform the message of the book The Boiling River to a message for the classroom
  • View six TED Talks and relate the content of each talk to the importance of the search for self-awareness
  • Make a written statement of why it is just as important for students to have the knowledge of who they are as it is to have knowledge about the world
